Cursor skills for video and images

Updated 2026-11-06

Cursor reads skills from .agents/skills or .cursor/skills in your project, or the same folders in your home folder, and it also loads skills from Claude Code's and Codex's folders. You run one by typing / and its name, or let Cursor pick it. We haven't run our skills in Cursor ourselves; this page says what Cursor's docs promise.

Where Cursor looks for skills

In one project.agents/skills, .cursor/skills, also .claude/skills and .codex/skills
For all your projects~/.agents/skills, ~/.cursor/skills, also ~/.claude/skills and ~/.codex/skills
How to use oneType / and search for the skill, for one message. Cursor also uses a skill on its own when it's relevant. A skill with disable-model-invocation: true runs only when you call it.
PlansCursor added Agent Skills to the editor and its CLI in version 2.4 (January 22, 2026). Its docs don't say whether every plan includes them.

A skill is a folder with a SKILL.md file: a short header with its name and description, then instructions, and any scripts it needs. It's an open format, published at agentskills.io, so the same folder can work in several agents. Our guide to what agent skills are explains it in full.

  • Required fields are name and description. Cursor also reads paths (only for matching files), disable-model-invocation, icon, color and metadata.
  • If you already use skills in Claude Code or Codex, Cursor finds them without copying, as long as they're in the folders above.
  • /migrate-to-skills turns your older Cursor rules and slash commands into skills.

One skill, three agents: what differs

AgentFoldersCall it with
Claude Code.claude/skills, ~/.claude/skills/name
Codex.agents/skills, ~/.agents/skills$name or /skills
Cursor.agents/skills, .cursor/skills, and Claude Code's and Codex's folders/name

Only name and description are read by all three, and the standard says name must match the folder's name. Extra fields one agent knows are ignored by the others.

Install a free video skill in Cursor

Here with Kinetic Type Title, which turns a line of text into an animated title video. It renders on your computer with HyperFrames, so it needs Node.js 22 or later and FFmpeg, and it has no cost per video.

mkdir -p ~/.agents/skills
curl -L -o kinetic-type-title.zip https://glidezo.com/media/skills/free/kinetic-type-title-v2.zip
unzip kinetic-type-title.zip -d ~/.agents/skills

Then start a new Cursor session and ask for what the skill makes, for example "make a title video that says Ideas that move". Every free skill is also on GitHub, so you can clone the repo instead.

What we tested in Cursor

Not tested in Cursor: it isn't installed on the computer we test on. Cursor's docs say it loads the same SKILL.md folders, including ones you already put in ~/.claude/skills or ~/.codex/skills.

What these skills can't do

  • The free downloads make video and images with code: titles, captions, charts, promos, cards. They don't make realistic AI footage or photos.
  • Our AI skills, such as Virtual Staging and Product in Scene Ad, run on this site for credits and don't download yet.
  • They need Node.js and FFmpeg on your computer, and the first render downloads HyperFrames' own browser.

To write your own, our free video skill creator makes a valid SKILL.md from a short form. For other agents: Claude Code skills and Codex skills.

Questions

Where do Cursor skills go?
In .agents/skills or .cursor/skills inside your project, or in ~/.agents/skills or ~/.cursor/skills for every project. Cursor also loads skills from .claude/skills and .codex/skills, and the same folders in your home folder.
How do I run a skill in Cursor?
Type / and search for it, which applies to one message. Cursor can also use a skill when it decides it's relevant, unless the skill sets disable-model-invocation: true.
Do Claude Code skills work in Cursor?
Cursor's docs say it loads skills from Claude Code's folders, .claude/skills and ~/.claude/skills. Fields only Claude Code knows are simply not used. We haven't checked this in Cursor ourselves.
Which Cursor plans include skills?
Cursor's docs and its 2.4 changelog announce skills for the editor and CLI, but we found no page that says which plans include them. Check inside Cursor.
Do these video skills need an API key in Cursor?
No. Our free skills render on your computer with HyperFrames and need Node.js and FFmpeg, not an AI model's key. Cursor itself runs on your Cursor plan.
